Farmstead
Sheep, goats, calf, horse, pigs, chickens and rabbits are the typical inhabitants of a traditional Latvian farmstead.
Farmstead house, built from logs, is one of the most beautiful houses in the Riga Zoo. The Farmstead was opened in the summer of 1999. Since the reconstruction that took place in 2007, it is possible to walk through the animal enclosures, which grants the visitors a closer contact with the animals. Here you can witness the activities of the typical inhabitants of a traditional Latvian farmstead: sheep, goats, calves, horses, pigs, chickens and rabbits.
The farmstead is the only place in the Riga Zoo where the visitors are allowed to feed the animals with food pellets that can be purchased from the nearby pellet machine that was put up in 2007. When you put a coin in the machine, you get a handful of pellets.
We remind you not to feed animals food brought from your home – overfed animals may fatten and get sick.
