Early summer is the time when many animal families have their offspring. Babies are born or hatched, and grow under their parents' care. Currently several Zoo animal families have or expect babies.
Riga Zoo, together with the Inquiry Service 1188, offers various discounts for visitors of Riga Zoo and Affiliate Cīruļi this May.
When the events of Museum Night take place in the city, Riga Zoo invites visitors to its History Night in the evening of 19 May in cooperation with the Inquiry Service 1188. On 19 May the Zoo's ticket offices will be open until 22:00. Indoor exhibits will be open until 23:00, and it will be possible to walk the Zoo paths until 23:30.
Riga Zoo, together with the Inquiry Service 1188, offers a discount on entrance fee on History Night from 18:00 until 22:00. With special discount coupons that you can find on the website of the Inquiry Service 1188, the Zoo entrance tickets will cost only 3.00 EUR.
On 12 and 13 May you are welcome to Animal Family Days at the Zoo. This year the main theme is owls!
On Friday, 4 May, Rabbit Day will be taking place at Riga Zoo’s Affiliate Cīruļi in Kalvene. From 12:00 to 15:00 the rabbit collection of 'Kalvenes trusis' rabbit farm will be presented. 'Kalvenes trusis' is a member of Latvian Small Animal Breeders Association, 'Trusis un Citi'.
After successful Bird Days in Riga Zoo last weekend, the Woodpecker Workshop will travel to the Zoo's Affiliate Cīruļi, as wild tit and starling populations need a solution to their lodging problem in Western Latvia, too.
Bird Day events will be taking place at Riga Zoo this weekend, 7–8 April. Since weather forecasts are favourable for this weekend, you are welcome to meet zoo animals as well as to join educational and practical activities.
On 29 March, the 20 year life and work anniversary of Puika the Grey Seal will be celebrated at the Zoo. That was 20 years ago when a small, weak orphaned seal pup was found on the beach of Riga Gulf and brought to the Zoo. Thanks to the effort of Zoo staff, it grew up successfully.
The anniversary will be celebrated together with Ventspils City, the supporters of the Zoo's seals since 2007, and the experts from the Nature Conservation Agency.
There are lots of babies at the Zoo this spring! In the new African animal exhibits in the Terrarium House, Grey Parrots, Meerkats and Rock Hyraxes have babies. And not only them! The white Pony mother has a black foal, and Ring-tailed Lemurs have got twins. You are welcome to come and see!
Cinereous Vulture pair has already started to build its nest. The work will continue for some more weeks, and visitors now are welcome to observe this vultures' family business.
After about a month, birds will start to incubate the egg. To ensure there's no disturbance during this responsible process, as each breeding season, the gate to the Zoo's large bird of prey enclosures will be closed to the public for a couple of months.
One of Riga Zoo's long lasting traditions is the Tropical Month which is organized each February. On Saturdays and Sundays of February, visitors are welcome to join events and activities of the 16th Tropical Month in Zoo's Tropical House.

The Winter Nights at Riga Zoo took place from December 15 to Sunday, January 28. The event was supported by Inquiry Service 1188.
The most observant Zoo visitors have already noticed a young in the new Hyrax and Meerkat exhibit in Terrarium house. The female Rock Hyrax baby was born on December 14, 2017. Rock Hyrax offspring are well developed at birth and active already in their young age.
On 10 January the much needed wildlife quarantine facilities were reopened in Riga Zoo. Reconstruction works were possible thanks to the financial help of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia, and Latvian Environmental Protection Fund.
Thanks to visitor interest, the Winter Nights in Riga Zoo are organized every year. In December 2017, 14,315 visitors arrived to the Zoo, setting a new Zoo attendance record in December.
